    BAGHDAD -
The Ministry of Agriculture announced on Sunday that the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers has opened the importation of poultry and red meat, indicating that it did not allow the importation of frozen fish for three months.
"At a time when the ministry is making great efforts to support the local product and provide it in the market of plant and animal products and contribute to the rise of the national economy, it is confirming, through the Planning and Follow-up Department, that there is no prohibition to import red meat," the ministry said in a statement.
She added that "the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers opened the door on the importation of poultry meat and meat products, while the import of frozen fish was opened for three months to contribute to filling the local market needs and to affect fish wealth."
"The decision to ban the importation of chickens, eggs and fish is an appropriate economic feasibility for educators and to encourage investment opportunities and employment of workers, which is reflected positively on the absorption of unemployment and the provision of foreign currency to the country," it added.
The ministry explained that "there are import plans followed by the ministry in cooperation with the veterinary and livestock departments on the subject of importing red meat and supporting the owners of these projects in accordance with the health and strategic controls."
