    Anbar province is preparing to operate the Okaz gas field, which is one of the largest free gas fields discovered in Iraq, with an estimated reserve of 5.3 trillion cubic feet.
    Anbar Governor’s Advisor for Energy Affairs, Aziz Al-Tarmouz, said that “the approval of the Ministry of Oil has been obtained, to expedite plans to develop the crutch field in Al-Qaim district, west of Anbar, and to start the operation of the national effort of the ministry as a first stage in order to enhance gas imports and in preparation for attracting reputable international investment companies.”
    He added, "The Korean Kokaz Company, one of the sober international investment companies, has completed the infrastructure of the crutch gas field, west of Anbar, and was forced to stop its work after the entry of ISIS gang members and their feet to destroy the project and steal its contents years ago."
     
    And last April, the Oil Ministry confirmed that the American company, Baker Hughes, which is one of the arms of the General Electric Company, is the closest to winning a contract to invest in the crutch field, after the contract was terminated with the Korean Kokaz Company, which did not show seriousness to re-work the field after the stability of the security situation.
    The Cruz field was discovered in 1981 with a reserve estimated at 5.3 trillion cubic feet, before oil was discovered in the same field in 1983, with huge quantities estimated to range between one and a half billion barrels.
    The 5.3 trillion cubic feet represents 5% of Iraq's reserves of gas in general, in both its associated and free forms.
    In addition, the 5.3 trillion cubic feet represents 5.3 million milligrams, at a time when Iraq imports from Iran about 1,700 milligrams per day, which means that the reserve of crutches is more than 8,000 times what it imports from Iran.
