Al-Sadr's meeting with Al-Kazemi increases the latter's chances for a second term, and the coordination is moving with caution

Baghdad / Tamim Al-Hassan
Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi's recent meeting with the leader of the Sadrist movement Muqtada al-Sadr in Najaf, and the Kurdistan Democratic Party's presentation of a new candidate for the presidency of the republic, stirred stagnant waters for months.
It is expected that following the recent changes, the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, will gradually begin to “resolve” the freezing of negotiations with the Shiite forces that have been going on for about a month, while Parliament has a maximum of several weeks to choose a new president.
On the other hand, the Coordination Framework Group is also moving cautiously towards the tripartite alliance formed by Al-Sadr with the Sunni and Kurdish forces on the one hand, on the one hand, not wanting to further complicate the crisis, as it still hopes to merge with the alliance.
The new parliament has held only one session with a full quorum since the first opening session, which took about 40 days, as the boycott of nearly two-thirds of its members obstructed the completion of sessions that require at least 165 deputies (half plus one), to pass projects and laws.
Tenderness meeting
Political sources expected that the last meeting between Al-Kazemi and the leader of the Sadrist movement in Al-Hanana, where the latter is based, is "the beginning of a return to understandings."
On February 5, Muqtada al-Sadr decided to freeze the negotiations to form the government, which coincided with a judicial decision that was interpreted in favor of the Shiite forces, which gave them the possibility of turning into what has become known as the “blocking third” of Parliament decisions.
And the sources that spoke to (the extent) suggested that the leader of the Sadrist movement, in the last meeting, had "expressed his support for the current prime minister in obtaining a third term in the event of the return of dialogues."
And there was information that reached (the range) confirming that the leader of the Sadrist movement has 6 candidates, including Al-Kazemi, in addition to a former minister and close to Al-Sadr, for the position of the next prime minister.
So far, the Sadrist movement has not issued any official confirmation about the news of Al-Kazemi's support, but the meeting between the two was "closed."
Saleh Muhammad al-Iraqi, who describes himself as "Minister of al-Sadr", stated in his tweet, Monday evening, that there was a "closed meeting between Mr. al-Sadr and al-Kazemi, in al-Hanana" in the city of Najaf.
Al-Sadr's minister added in the tweet, the latter's phrase, which became famous after the recent elections, "neither eastern nor western, a national majority government."
Mishaan al-Jubouri, a leader in the Alliance of Sovereignty (Azm and Advance), a partner of al-Sadr, had revealed that the coalition supported Al-Kazemi's second term.
The Iraqi Prime Minister anticipated his meeting with Al-Sadr, emphasizing that Iraq is going through complicated circumstances, noting that there are those who tried to create sectarian strife.
Al-Kazemi added, on a religious occasion in Najaf, "We need to instill the spirit of love in order to serve the people of Iraq, and it is necessary to work in the spirit of one team to create the future."
The Prime Minister had arrived in Najaf, last Monday, to participate in a religious event in one of the shrines in the city.
These developments came with the Kurdistan Democratic Party's announcement of the candidacy of Reber Khaled for the presidency, following the judiciary's decision to exclude the alternative candidate, Hoshyar Zebari.
Reber Ahmed Khaled, born in 1968, holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and a master's degree in national security, and has worked in several positions in the Kurdistan region's security service, and is now the Minister of Interior.
Zebari, a prominent leader in the Democratic Party and a former Minister of Finance and Foreign Affairs, considered that the decision issued against him was "acceptable and politicized."
Zebari said that he had met all the conditions when he applied to run for office, referring to official books proving his competence, and acceptance by all bodies, indicating that all payments made against him had been closed before.
And Zebari said at a conference held in Baghdad last Sunday: "I served this country for 13 years with integrity, and we will not ask for a certificate of good behavior from others," adding that "they do not want a strong president for Iraq."
In the second nomination for the position of President of the Republic, after the expiry of the first month of previous nominations, Parliament is required to send the names of the added candidates to 4 official bodies.
The procedure may be delayed a week or more, according to some estimates, as the names of the new candidates will be checked in the Integrity Commission, the Ministry of Education, Accountability and Justice, and the Ministry of Interior.
Coordination tries to persuade "Al-Sadr"
On the other hand, the coordination framework, according to political sources, "is moving cautiously towards the issue of the Kurdish forces and the elections of the President of the Republic."
The "Coordination" had, in conjunction with these events, met with the President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Bafel Talabani, at the home of his father, the late Iraqi President Jalal Talabani in Baghdad.
According to the sources, "the coordinating framework did not give an explicit answer to the National Union, which revealed the first that their only candidate for the presidency is Barham Salih."
The sources expect that "the Shiite forces do not want to rush into this matter so as not to anger the leader of the Sadrist movement," as the "Coordination Committee" is still trying to persuade al-Sadr to include him in the tripartite alliance.
The Coordinator is promoting news that he has no "personal animosity" with the leader of the Sadrist movement, and that Nuri al-Maliki, the former prime minister, rejected by al-Sadr, is ready to cooperate with the latter.
In addition, Abbas Al-Zamili, a representative of Al-Fateh - one of the framework's formations - told (Al-Mada) that "after our latest initiative, there are meetings with the movement, but not at the leadership level."
The Sadrist movement or its partners have not yet commented on the recent initiative launched by the "coordinator", which included 3 points, and repeated the same previous talk about forming a consensual government, which is the opposite of the desire of the leader of the Sadrist movement.
Until this moment, Al-Zamili confirms that "the Al-Fateh coalition is still committed to staying within the coordination framework that will participate in the government unified or go to the opposition or boycott otherwise."
