The US position on Iraq's demand to expel Turkish forces
Shafaq News/ The spokesperson for the US State Department, Ned Price, commented on the Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein's call, the international partners in the UN Security Council, including the United States, to issue a resolution related to the removal of Turkish forces from Iraqi territory.
The spokesman said in a statement to the American Al-Hurra website, "We are aware of the complaint submitted by the Iraqi government in the Security Council, and the statement issued by the Council on this matter, and we reiterate our position that military action in Iraq must respect Iraqi sovereignty and must respect territorial integrity." Iraqi".
In response to a question about whether the United States would support such a resolution proposed by Iraq, Price said: "We supported those principles, including the principles that were made clear in the statement of the United Nations Security Council."
Price expressed the United States' condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims who were killed or injured (as a result of the attack that took place in Dohuk a few days ago), and stressed the importance of ensuring the protection of civilians.
And Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein told the Security Council yesterday, Tuesday, during a session to discuss the attack, that "this aggression is tangible evidence before the council of Turkey's continued ignoring Iraq's demands to stop its continued military violations of Iraqi sovereignty, and to withdraw its military forces from Iraqi territory."
He pointed out that "there is no security agreement between Iraq and Turkey regarding allowing Turkish forces to penetrate Iraqi territory to chase the PKK, in return for Turkey's insistence on the existence of such an agreement."
The minister called for "issuing a decision obligating Turkey to withdraw its military forces from all Iraqi territory, as the presence of these forces is illegal and was not at the request of the Iraqi government, and there is no military or security agreement or agreement in this regard, and that their presence will destabilize the security situation and create instability condition.
Iraq accuses Turkey of being the party that bombed a tourist area in Dohuk, killing 9 civilians and wounding 23. Ankara denied responsibility, blaming the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
