French-Iraqi discussions on the Iranian-Saudi talks in Baghdad
Shafaq News/ On Tuesday, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein discussed with his French counterpart Catherine Colonna the Iranian-Saudi talks hosted by the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, and briefed her on the demonstrations taking place in the Green Zone.
This came while receiving a phone call from his French counterpart, in which he congratulated her on the occasion of assuming her position as French Minister of Foreign Affairs, wishing her success in her work duties, according to a statement received by Shafaq News Agency.
According to the statement, the two sides discussed "improving bilateral relations in various fields, and ways to enhance consultation and coordination between Baghdad and Paris."
The Iraqi minister expressed his "thanks to the French government for its supportive stances for Iraq in various fields, and briefed it on the Iraqi internal situation and the demonstrations Iraq is witnessing, stressing that it represents a case related to the emerging democracy practiced by the Iraqi people and is within the political process in Iraq."
The two ministers also discussed a number of regional and international issues of common concern, stressing the need to work to reduce tension and achieve calm in the region, and to avoid escalation that would not serve any party.
The two ministers touched on bilateral relations between Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Iran, and their improvement in certain areas. The two sides stressed the need to continue the discussions that began in Baghdad, and to advance solutions that would achieve security and stability, and advance the process of cooperation to achieve peace and development aspirations.
The two ministers also discussed the process of negotiations on the nuclear agreement between Iran and the six countries, and its positive repercussions on the security and stability of the region.
For her part, the French Foreign Minister offered her sincere condolences to the government and people of Iraq for the martyrdom of a number of citizens as a result of the bombing of a tourist village in Dohuk Governorate, stressing France's commitment to fully support Iraq's sovereignty in order to ensure its security and stability.
In conclusion, Minister Hussein invited the French Minister to visit Baghdad to discuss ways to improve bilateral relations between the two friendly countries.
