    The Ministry of Commerce is preparing to launch the electronic ration card project within Baghdad and all governorates of the country for a period of three months, which will be similar to the unified card system, and by adopting an application that is installed within the citizen’s mobile phone.

    The official spokesman for the ministry, Muhammad Hanoun, said in a statement to the official newspaper, “Nass” (February 11, 2023), that “the ministry is automating the ration card, that is, converting it from paper to electronic, to be similar to the unified card,” noting that “the decision was issued Five years ago, in coordination with the World Food Programme, it was not implemented due to the lack of sufficient support, in addition to its own technical problems.  
      
    He added that "the ministry carried out, within Najaf Governorate, the largest operation to update citizens' information within the electronic ration card, and by adopting the (Tamwini) application that is installed on the (mobile) device, and access to it is with a secret number installed with it, indicating that the application includes information on the items of the food basket, its quality and origins." It will also save the data of the citizen’s receipt of his monthly share, withholding travelers, adding new births, deaths, and other information,” stressing that “the program will be activated after the completion of the experimental environment for the governorate.”  
      
    Hanoun continued, "358,000 ration cards have been updated through 18 centers to receive citizens in Najaf, as the first experimental stage, with a completion rate of 41 percent, and through 50 mobile teams that covered remote areas, rural areas, districts and districts, thus contributing to covering citizens' information by adopting either The unified card or status identity and nationality certificate, which are presented to these teams, to be included and transferred to the data in the Planning and Follow-up Department of the Ministry.  
      
    And he stressed in the same context, that "the launch of the experiment within Baghdad and the provinces for a period of three months, will take place after the completion of the experimental phase for the province of Najaf," noting that "the ministry recently started in the districts and districts of Basra, Nineveh and other provinces in the country, by opening new supply centers to review the citizens who They can't get to the city centre.
