The government intends to hold a major investment conference, the first of its kind, in Baghdad at the end of this month.
The head of the Investment and Development Committee in the House of Representatives, Hassan Al-Khafaji, told Al-Sabah: The conference will be attended by reputable foreign and local companies from the central and southern governorates, indicating that it will be devoted to announcing investment opportunities nationwide.
He added that the committee prepared a study and a table of all existing opportunities in preparation for announcing them at the conference, which will witness a high-level local and foreign government presence, indicating that the level of investment in Iraq at the present time is better than it was in previous years, due to the presence of investment opportunities offset by the presence of companies and investors who can compete for them.
Al-Khafaji explained that the committee seeks, through its meetings with the Prime Minister and investment authorities, to create new investment opportunities and implement them by reputable and internationally known investment companies in the field of city building and others.
For his part, the second deputy head of the committee, Hussein Al-Sabari, stated in an interview with “Al-Sabah” that the committee had previously presented the idea of holding this conference to Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani during its meeting with him, pointing out that the government formed a committee and prepared for this conference alone without involving any member. In the committee, even though it was the one that came up with the idea.
He added that the Parliamentary Investment and Development Committee possesses all the information and details about the investment in Baghdad and the provinces and the investment opportunities that could be presented at the conference.
