The “Great Deterrence” operation dismantles the most dangerous drug trafficking networks

Yesterday, Wednesday, the General Directorate of Narcotics Affairs in the Ministry of Interior counted the results of the second major deterrence operation, which resulted in the seizure of approximately 20 tons of drugs and the overthrow of more than 25 thousand traffickers and users since the beginning of this year until now
.
The directorate said, in a statement, that it “carried out the second major deterrence operation in the history of Iraq and overthrew the most prominent and dangerous drug trafficking and promotion networks.”
According to the statement, the operation resulted in the arrest of (16,399) people involved in drug crimes, including (9,600) criminals who were sentenced to death by hanging, life imprisonment,
and other sentences.
The Directorate indicated that it seized (3) tons and a half tons of various types of narcotic substances, (15) tons and (1,650,000) pills of psychotropic substances, (943) firearms, (173) explosive hand grenades, and (1,596) ) wheel.
The statement pointed out that (13) drug traffickers were killed, (11) others were injured, 3 victims were killed, and (23) drug control members were wounded.
A few days ago, the Ministry of Health destroyed more than one million tablets and (46) kg of narcotics and psychotropic substances, in accordance with the law and stored in the Forensic Medicine Department in Baghdad, in the presence of Judge Suhaib Dahham Al-Maadidi, Deputy President of the Baghdad Al-Rusafa Federal Court of Appeal and Chairman of the Narcotic Drug Destruction Committee, and Dr. Ahmed Abadi. Director of the Department of Follow-up of the Work of the Supreme National Authority for Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Affairs at the Ministry of Health.
