Shafaq News/The Kurdish leader, Masoud Barzani, met at his residence in the Salah al-Din resort, on Saturday, with the French ambassador to Iraq, Eric Chevalier.
During the meeting, the ambassador conveyed the greetings of French President Emmanuel Macron to Leader Barzani, according to a statement issued by Barzani’s headquarters.
The statement stated that opinions were exchanged on the political situation, events in the region, and the possibilities and risks of the next stage.
The statement continued that the relations between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Iraqi federal government were another focus of the meeting, and the efforts made to resolve the outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad received praise and appreciation.
The statement added that the French ambassador to Iraq welcomed the decision of Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani to calm the situation by donating the building of the headquarters of the Leadership Council of the Kurdistan Democratic Party to Kirkuk University, considering it a “wise decision.”

On Thursday, October 26, the Kurdistan Democratic Party, headed by Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani, decided to present its former leadership headquarters in Kirkuk Governorate as a gift to Kirkuk University.
Yesterday, Thursday, the head of the party supervised a meeting of the party’s Central Committee in the presence of his first deputy, Nechirvan Barzani, and his second deputy, Masrour Barzani, according to a statement issued after the meeting.
The advanced headquarters for joint operations is located in the disputed governorate between Erbil and Baghdad. The Iraqi government intended to evacuate it and return it to the party, but Arab and Turkmen demonstrators protested and staged a sit-in in front of it not to do so.
The Kurdistan Democratic Party is seeking to restore its headquarters in Kirkuk and reopen it again after six years of closure.
Kirkuk, inhabited by a mixture of Kurds, Turkmen, Arabs and Christians, is one of the most prominent disputed areas between Baghdad and Erbil.
On October 16, 2017, the federal forces redeployed to Kirkuk and the rest of the disputed territories that were under the control of the Peshmerga forces, after the Kurdistan Region held an independence referendum, after which the Democratic Party permanently left its 33 headquarters, including the advanced headquarters it occupied. Joint operations in Kirkuk.
The issue of the Kurdistan Democratic Party restoring its headquarters in Kirkuk and the Article 140 areas is part of the state administration coalition agreement under which the government of Muhammad Shia al-Sudani was formed. The agreement also included handing over its administration to a local police composed of the original residents of the city.
The State Administration Coalition is a political alliance formed in (September 2023) from the coordination framework (Shiite forces except for the Sadrist movement), and all Sunni forces represented by the “Al-Azm” and “Sovereignty” alliances, in addition to the two Kurdish parties, the Democratic Party and the National Union, and the Babylon Movement.
