    Baghdad today - Baghdad
The private sector in Iraq has suffered from great marginalization with the succession of governments since 2003, as they did not succeed in putting it on the right track, in addition to the absence of its role in the most important stages that the country went through.
Factories and private companies stopped after the American invasion of Iraq in 2003, and reliance became primarily on foreign imports, in addition to weak investment in the country, which contributed to total dependence on the government sector, so that citizens began to prefer the public sector, which guarantees their rights in the post-retirement stage. In addition to the salary it offers, unlike the private sector, which did not constitute an essential part of building post-2003 Iraq, according to press reports.
Today, Wednesday (November 1, 2023), the economic affairs specialist, Nasser Al-Kinani, stresses the necessity of an economic partnership between the “public and private” sectors.
Al-Kinani says, to “Baghdad Today,” that “Iraq is completely devoid of any cooperation or partnership between the “public and private” sectors. Rather, there is great neglect of the private sector by the relevant government agencies, and that is why we do not see a real and effective role for this sector in reducing Unemployment rate".
He believes that “reducing the unemployment rate is through activating the role of the private sector, so that it does not rely solely on government appointments, but government neglect of the private sector pushes citizens to resort only to the public sector and work in it, and for this there must be government interest in the private sector, with The existence of an economic partnership between the public and private sectors, and this matter occurs through legislating laws that require this matter, and legislating such laws is the responsibility of the Iraqi Council of Representatives.”
The private sector in Iraq suffers from several problems, including obstruction by the state through the complexity of procedures and the lack of an ideal environment, which prompted the majority of businessmen to pack up their money and move it outside the country for investment and work.
