Transport: Implementing 5 vital projects in the railway sector

During the current year, the Ministry of Transport is launching five vital projects in the railway sector, most notably the development road and the (Najaf-Karbala) line, in addition to establishing new lines and activating suspended ones.
Director of the Ministry’s Media Office, Maitham Al-Safi, said in a statement to “Al-Sabah”: His Ministry has identified the most important and vital projects that will constitute a shift in the country’s economic and commercial sectors, with the aim of developing the railway sector, foremost of which is the Development Road Project, whose completion rates have exceeded 50 percent with regard to designs. Railway road.
He added that the designs for the international highway have begun, as soil investigations reached 1,000 km, and its initial designs reached 600 km for the railway, and 300 km for the highway, noting that his ministry is the sectoral body concerned with implementing the (Najaf-Karbala) train project after completing its studies with The Ministry of Construction and Housing and the local governments of Holy Karbala and Najaf and the Holy Shrines, which is scheduled to be launched during 2024.
Al-Safi pointed out that there is high coordination with officials of the Syrian railway sector to achieve railway connectivity between the two countries and to exploit its geographical location with the development road project proposed by Iraq, leading to the activation of previous agreements between the two countries and the investment of Syrian and Lebanese ports to serve the project, stressing that work is underway to operate all railway lines in The country, at the forefront of which is the (Sawa-Hijama) and (Baghdad-Bayji) lines, as well as the Doura Refinery railway project, which will ensure the transportation of oil from it to the country’s ports.
