Shafaq News/ The head of the Strategic Center for Human Rights, Fadhel Al-Gharawi, said on Thursday that Iraq ranked seventh in the index of the highest and lowest per capita income in Arab countries during the year 2024, according to a study prepared by the International Monetary Fund, as the average income of Iraqis approached 6 thousand dollars annually.
Al-Gharawi added in a statement today that according to the International Monetary Fund study, Qatar topped the list with about $82,000 in annual income, while Egypt came at the bottom of the list with $3,770, while Iraq came in seventh place with the individual receiving $5,880 this year, which is equivalent to more than 7 million dinars according to the official price.
He added that the Iraqi per capita GDP rate reached 2.8% in 2023 after achieving growth of 7.9% in 2022, noting that it is hoped that Iraq will achieve growth in GDP in 2024 by 4.4%, which will be reflected in the annual per capita income rate.
Al-Gharawi confirmed that Qatar ranks seventh in the world in terms of annual per capita income. In the Arab world, the UAE came in second place with about $50.6 thousand, Saudi Arabia third with about $32.5 thousand, then Kuwait with about $32.2 thousand.
The head of the center called on the government to diversify the sources of the Iraqi economy, enhance sustainable development, attract global investment, establish a generation fund, launch the national strategy for the economy and investment, and set a 2030 goal for Iraq to reach second place in the Iraqi per capita income index.
