Basra provincial council member Ahmed al-Sulaiti said on Wednesday that the province did not allocate to it in 2017 only 28 billion dinars and was not sufficient for the basic benefits for the province of 119 billion dinars, but stopped all projects in the province.

Al-Sulaiti said in a statement to "Trend Press" that the amount allocated by the federal government to the province of Basra in the budget this year is not enough to work at all requirements in the province, calling at the same time the federal government to allocate amounts commensurate with the volume of business requirements and revenues taken from Basra.

He added that it was our demand that we share with the federal government in the preparation of the budget of 2018 before going to parliament because any amendment being made by the House of Representatives is worthless as the executive government will do as it did earlier to reject any increase in the budget and thus will be useless. Pointing out that it is not acceptable for the federal government to practice the local governments and to put whatever they want and what they want away from the opinion of local governments.

Basra has suffered a severe financial crisis and unprecedented and because of it became many government departments are almost unable to perform their duties, and stopped dozens of service projects before completion. The local government has on several occasions called on the federal government to pay the dues of the province for the past four years, A small part due to the financial crisis in the country.
