"Eid clothes" attract the attention of shoppers, and the high prices iron their hands
Shafaq News/ With the approach of Eid al-Fitr, shops, especially those specialized in selling clothes and shoes in Baghdad, are racing to display their new products a few days before the Eid date, so that families can buy these clothes.
However, it is noticeable that prices have witnessed an insane rise this year by very large proportions compared to other previous years, according to what a number of citizens have said.
Various markets in Baghdad witnessed uneven turnout, buying movement and crowding of wholesale markets in the Shorja area and popular markets in Baghdad, while this turnout decreased in other markets such as Karrada Market due to its closure during the month of Ramadan due to the security situation.

Haider al-Hasani, one of the owners of wholesale clothing stores in Baghdad's al-Shorja area, Haider al-Hasani said in an interview with Shafaq News Agency that "the demand for buying clothes begins with the beginning of the month of Ramadan, especially for children's clothes," noting that "the goods currently offered in the markets have recently arrived and are characterized by new models and different shapes." ".
He added that "the prices this year are reasonable and did not rise much from what they were before this period," adding that "the rise in prices came as a result of the rise in dollar prices and the increase in clothing prices in the countries of origin."

And the citizen, Umm Hussein, who wanders between the shops in an attempt to buy some clothes, told Shafaq News that she "allocated about 200 thousand dinars to buy clothes and shoes for her two children and her only grandson," noting that "there is a noticeable increase in prices, as the price of one dress is for my daughters." For ages between 12 and 14 years, it exceeds 40,000 dinars.
She pointed out that "the process of buying clothes before Eid makes her daughters happy, and their requirements cannot be ignored or their joy among their peers broken, so new clothes must be worn," noting that "this type of purchase has become exhausting for the family because it affects their limited budget."
The shopper, Umm Amir, who is a mother of three daughters, said in an interview with Shafaq News Agency; "Traders are taking advantage of the state of confusion and the great demand for clothes before Eid by raising prices," noting that "she buys the main clothes for her daughters at the beginning of the month of Ramadan, and the prices are somewhat appropriate, and she buys other secondary needs such as accessories before Eid."
She pointed out that "most families are now shopping from the popular markets for the cheapest prices in them," but at the same time, "you can find modern and beautiful models in the malls and the Mansour and Karrada markets."

He added, "The base of the lower expenditure pyramid is much larger than the upper, the numbers of the lowest income are much greater than the empowered, so the shopping movement is concentrated in popular markets more than in luxury markets and malls," noting that "the family who buys clothes twice a year is keen that be on holidays.
He pointed out that "the Karrada market has decreased its shopping movement this year due to the closure due to the security situation," noting that "this market depends to a large extent on the shopping of shoppers from outside Karrada."
It is noteworthy that Iraq consistently tops the list of importers of most Turkish, Chinese and Iranian goods, and official estimates indicate that trade exchange between Iraq and Turkey reached $21 billion last year.
The International Monetary Fund expected Iraq's GDP growth to reach 9.5% and annual inflation to 6.9% during 2022.
