After stopping for several years, the Military Industrialization Authority returned to manufacturing weapons, while unveiling the first pistol-type weapon, which bore the name “Babylon.”

In this regard, the head of the Iraqi Federation of Industries, Ali Sabih Al-Saadi, described the Military Industrialization Authority’s production of weapons, including the “Babylon” pistol, as a “step in the right direction.” Al-Saadi said in an exclusive interview with (Al-Mada), that “military manufacturing is no less important than the manufacture of medicine and food, since all countries of the world own this industry.” He added, "The ambition is moving towards medium industries, as Iraq needs weapons to fight terrorist groups that threaten security," noting that "the private sector is required to participate in this field, as it has the ability to provide liquidity and purchase these products." Al-Saadi pointed out, “The need for government support; Because without financial and legal empowerment, this industry cannot be developed,” he said, calling at the same time to “allocate funds within the financial budget during the coming years for the military industries.”
global sources
For his part, security expert Fadel Abu Ragheef revealed Iraq's need for international sources to supply it with weapons.
Abu Ragheef, in an exclusive interview with Al-Mada, said that “the possibilities offered now are still modest, especially that Iraq has fought many wars, which is supposed to gain it great experience in this field.” He explained that “Iraq needs international support and authorization before Some global factories manufacture weapons, otherwise producing a simple pistol means that Iraq is spinning in the middle of an empty whirlpool.” Abu Ragheef continued his speech by saying that “military industrialization needs, and requires, the advancement of the industrial reality by obtaining approvals from international companies specialized in military industries and global weapons.”
Parliamentary support
In addition, Member of Parliament Rafiq Al-Salihi affirmed Parliament's support for the military industries. Al-Salihi said, in an interview with Al-Mada, that “the issue of military re-industrialization in Iraq is important and is a step towards revitalizing all industrial sectors, and accordingly the government should focus its utmost interests in this matter and proceed towards developing this file and making it a competitor.” He added that "the military industry is one of the most important industries in all countries of the world, and it is no secret to everyone that the developed countries have been associated with the development of these industries." The head of the Military Industrialization Authority, Muhammad Sahib Al-Daraji, said earlier, “The Babylon pistol was the first experience of typical production, as the military industry aims to deter and preserve peace in the country,” referring to “efforts to produce a military industry that covers part of the needs of the Iraqi armed forces.” “. He added, "The Babylon pistol is an Iraqi manufacture in a very large proportion, and choosing the name indicates strength," pointing out that "the use of some foreign experts to supervise the qualitative control of the weapon."
