    The Ministry of Industry and Minerals confirmed, on Saturday, the trend towards producing low-cost electric cars in the near future.
    The media center of the ministry said, in a statement received by it, that "the ministry is focusing at the current stage on assembling all cars, equipment and specialized mechanisms, which are in the process of partial assembly (skd) to the stage of total assembly (ckd), and thus gradually increasing the added value, reaching the highest value." It has, for many years, been confined to 30%.
    He continued, "After the completion of this stage, it is possible to enter into the field of manufacturing an Iraqi car, since the matter is not impossible, but it is difficult to implement, because the issue requires state support, the allocation of a large budget, and the entry into many contracts with international companies specialized in the field of car manufacturing, such as Italian design companies." pioneer in this field.
    He pointed out that "achieving this goal also requires contracting with international specialized companies in the manufacture of components that feed the manufacturing process, similar to all international car companies," adding, "Most of the current global cars have components that are products of a group of specialized international companies that are relied upon." 
    He added, "The ministry can, in the near future, as a first step, enter into the field of manufacturing a low-cost Iraqi electric car, as it does not need a huge budget compared to fuel-powered cars, and its contracts with companies are few because it is considered in this case an Iraqi pioneer because the world is currently heading towards Relying on electric cars for their low cost, to reduce the use of fuel and to preserve the environment.
