The Federal Office of Financial Supervision received 552 complaints, most of which relate to cases of corruption and waste of public money, during the past year 2022.
An official source in the Bureau said in a statement to Al-Sabah newspaper, seen by Al-Maaloumah, that “the number of complaints increased in the past year compared to the previous two years, as 135 complaints were received during the year 2020 and 334 complaints in the year 2021, indicating that the reports and complaints received by the Bureau are divided according to its subject matter in terms of being related to cases of corruption and waste of public money or individual cases of the complainant himself, indicating that dealing with them is in accordance with the mechanism for receiving complaints and information received by the Bureau.
He explained that “the nature of the oversight work of the Bureau is represented by diagnosing observations and violations that may result in a waste of public money, and then referring the report on those observations to the competent authorities represented by the Integrity and Judicial Commission, so that it in turn issues judicial decisions.”

With regard to the role of the Bureau in the issue of high oil prices and the occurrence of a surplus in Iraq, the source confirmed that the Bureau is a supervisory body and therefore it exercises its role according to the powers specified in its law, noting that the budget law is the one that determines the procedures adopted in dealing with the surplus, as the Bureau then audits the procedures taken in accordance with the law. End 25
