    Baghdad today - Baghdad
The Parliamentary Reconstruction and Services Committee confirmed today, Monday (October 16, 2023), that the housing crisis in Iraq is on its way to being resolved, by relying on new residential cities.
Committee member Heba Jarjis told Baghdad Today, “The housing crisis in Iraq is on its way to being resolved within the next few years, through the construction of various residential cities in the capital, Baghdad, and other Iraqi governorates. These cities will solve the crisis in a very significant way.”
Jarjis stated, "There is governmental and parliamentary interest in the housing crisis in Iraq, and for this reason there will be various residential cities that support the poor and employees, in order to gradually end the crisis over the next few years, and there are plans prepared in this regard by the government."
Earlier, the Council of Ministers agreed to refer 4 out of 5 residential cities to investment, as these residential cities will provide approximately 200,000 housing units in 5 governorates, where the government will impose fixed prices to prevent speculation in prices.
On the other hand, the deficit in housing units in Iraq is more than 3 million housing units, while the government plans to establish 20 residential cities, including the five cities mentioned. The total of these residential cities will provide 700 thousand housing units, which means that they are sufficient to fill only 23% of the total deficit.
