The Ministry of Water Resources has prepared a campaign to remove thousands of violations on rivers, which it adopted as “the largest” years ago in all governorates.
Ministry spokesman Khaled Shamal said in an interview with “Al-Sabah”: “The Ministry implemented a broad national campaign to remove violations of rivers and taboos,” noting that “the campaign came with the direct support of the Prime Minister, the judiciary, the security forces, and the Popular Mobilization Forces.”
Campaigns to remove violations were able to drain more than 300 overflowing fish lakes in Babylon to maintain water quotas, in agreement with the water resources in the governorate.
For its part, the Ministry of Agriculture said through its official spokesman, Muhammad Al-Khuzai: “Fish is considered an agricultural commodity like other commodities, and any change that occurs in prices is directed to the agricultural calendar and the door is opened for imports to control prices.”
Al-Khuzaie added, in an interview with Al-Sabah, that “during the recent period, fish prices returned to their normal levels after recording an increase,” indicating that “the water scarcity that the country experienced greatly affected the agricultural and animal sectors.”
He pointed out that "the decision of the Ministry of Water Resources was taken to save water, especially since the water situation is critical," indicating that "decisions like these are not easy and affect many sectors, and despite the difficulties, solutions exist."
