On Saturday, MP Salah Zaini Al-Tamimi revealed the start of the first phase of the water harvesting plan in eastern Iraq.

Al-Tamimi said in an interview with Al-Maalouma, “80% of Diyala’s areas were affected by the drought wave during 2023, which was preceded by being deprived of two agricultural plan seasons due to the inability to provide water, especially since its five dams lost 80-90% of their water storage.”
He added, "Water harvesting is an important strategy in order to alleviate the severity of drought in Diyala, and pressure in this direction was made through the Ministry of Water Resources, which began the first phase of identifying some border valleys near the cities of Mandali and Qazaniya in order to build dams that contribute to containing large quantities during flood seasons." "The sweeping one."
He pointed out that "harvesting rainwater and floods represents an important strategy that will help the regions of eastern Diyala overcome the dimensions of the severe drought crisis."
The areas of eastern Diyala witness the flow of torrents in large quantities during the heavy rainy seasons, which could provide large water reserves if they were invested by building dams. End of 25 February
