    The Ministry of Water Resources required the political will of upstream countries to reach an agreement on water sharing.
    The Undersecretary of the Ministry, Hussein Abdel-Amir, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah” followed by “Al-Iqtisad News” that water security in Iraq needs two basic pillars, the first related to the upstream countries, as the ministry seeks to reach an agreement with the upstream countries, which is a political matter par excellence by 95 percent. .
    He pointed out that if the political will of the upstream countries is available, an agreement can be reached on water, noting that the second pillar is internal, confirming the country's need to develop and raise the efficiency of water use.
    Abdel Amir pointed out that the Ministry worked to adopt strategic projects about a year ago, namely “Awsat Tigris”, East Al-Gharraf, the Al-Amara Irrigation Project, and the Mahrut Project, adding that these projects were initiated and implemented, and the search for unconventional water resources, in addition to preserving existing water and rationing it. The waste it causes.
