    Baghdad today - Erbil
An official source in the Kurdistan Regional Government revealed, today, Friday (December 22, 2023), the fate of employees’ salaries in the region for the last three months of the current year.
    Mandatory saving
The source told "Baghdad Today", "The Kurdistan Regional Government decided to count the salaries of the three months of the current year (10, 11, and 12) as compulsory savings."
He added, "The reason for saving months' salaries is that the regional government does not have financial liquidity," noting that "the Erbil government holds the federal government responsible for the reason, as it did not send the Kurdistan region's share of the financial budget for the year 2023."
On the tenth of December, the Federal Ministry of Finance announced the launch of a loan worth 700 billion dinars to finance the salaries of Kurdistan Region employees, which was preceded by several loans amounting to 400 billion dinars over the past months.

    One solution.. What is it?
On (December 18, 2023), former member of the Iraqi Parliament, Ghaleb Muhammad, considered that linking the salaries of employees in the Kurdistan region with the federal government is the only solution to get rid of the financial crisis.
Muhammad told "Baghdad Today" that "the current financial crisis in the Kurdistan region is caused by the lack of financial liquidity as a result of the failure to disburse employees' salaries on a regular basis and their delay for more than 3 months."
He added, "Linking employee salaries with Baghdad and through the MasterCard system is the only hope for salvation from the financial crisis, as paying employee salaries regularly without delay will end the crisis and revive the economic sectors and markets of the region."
Muhammad pointed out that "linking employee salaries with the federal government does not require the approval of the regional government, as there is a paragraph in the budget law that enables Baghdad to pay salaries with a deduction from revenues."
    Continuing demonstrations
Sulaymaniyah Governorate employees are constantly demanding that their salaries be linked and received directly from Baghdad, but the Kurdistan Regional Government in Erbil strongly opposes this matter, considering that the region is a federal system and must receive its share of the budget on a regular basis, and it is the one responsible for paying the salaries of its employees.
The Kurdistan region is witnessing a wave of public anger due to the salary crisis, while many employees in the region are demonstrating to demand their rights and to be linked directly to the center.
