The authority stated in a statement received by "NAS" a copy of it (December 30, 2021), that "the work of the border crossings was evaluated during the year 2021 to find out the most important achievements achieved and to emphasize the continuity and preservation and urge them to improve them for the better, as well as identifying the obstacles and mistakes that I faced the progress of procedures in order to develop the necessary solutions to address it in the next year 2022."

The attendees affirmed "the implementation of the general policy of the authority and the achievement of the goals that the authority aspires to reach to be a working guide for all ports (land, sea and air)."

The statement outlined the most important of these goals:

1- Preventing and following up smuggling operations and wasting public funds and adopting a qualitative way to undermine and eradicate them resolutely.

2- Checking the certificate of origin, import licence, pre-examination documents, border sequences, sea and land manifests, and electronically exempted items to prevent forgery or distortion of official papers.

3- Emphasis on the customs centers and the General Company for Ports of Iraq to withdraw all the containers accumulated in the seaports, according to the provisions of the customs law.

4- The directors of border crossings coordinate and integrate with the governorates in terms of developing and reconstructing the ports and meeting their requirements from the revenues generated.

5- Emphasizing the implementation of Cabinet decisions numbered (84) for the year 2020 and (455) for the year 2021, which stipulates that the role of the border crossings shall be to monitor, supervise and control the work of the departments operating at the port without interfering with matters and technical aspects.

6- Ensuring the realization of the sovereign duties in proportion to the value of the goods and preventing any manipulation of public money.

7- Detecting violations, referring violators to the judiciary, and inflicting maximum penalties to deter anyone who takes advantage of his position in violating the law.

8- Coordinating and exchanging information with the departments operating at the border crossing and opening official channels of communication to prevent the passage of any smuggling or manipulation of public money.

9- Emphasizing that the port managers and their assistants carry out field work and carry out qualitative and sudden audits to ensure that the law is applied properly and according to the controls.

10- Starting from an important principle, which is to make 2022 (the year of reform and fighting corruption) and work with high professionalism and craftsmanship to achieve this principle, which is the backbone of the success of any file.

According to the statement, the attendees stressed the need to "revive and motivate all managers and assistants to exert the utmost and sincere efforts to serve our dear country."
