The energy company "Siemens" confirmed its work to increase Iraq's electricity production by 15 gigawatts, which represents 50% of the energy currently produced.
Karim Amin, a member of the Executive Board of Directors of Siemens Energy, said, in an interview with Arab media, which was followed by "Baghdad Today", that the Gulf region is witnessing an expansion of renewable energy projects during the current period.
He added that "Siemens" is working to increase the electricity production capacity in Iraq by 15 gigawatts, equivalent to 50% of the current energy produced, and to strengthen the transmission and distribution networks, saying: "Iraq may invest $450 million in associated gas capture projects... We have two projects to capture gas and convert it into clean energy." ".
He explained that the company is competing for new energy projects in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as part of a package to be launched in the Kingdom with a capacity of 7 gigawatts for wind energy or gas, within the framework of the Kingdom's Vision 2050, which includes placing it on the world map in the production of clean and renewable energy and the production of green hydrogen.
And he considered that the Russian-Ukrainian war was a wake-up call that prompted Europe to accelerate its steps towards clean energies, especially wind energy and hydrogen, which supports the Arab region playing a pivotal role in the production of green hydrogen and electrical interconnection projects between countries.
