The Presidency and Government of the Kurdistan Region expressed their full readiness to hold parliamentary elections in the region.
This came in a statement issued by the Regional Presidency following a meeting of a delegation from the Presidency and Government of the Kurdistan Region, which was held at the headquarters of the Regional Presidency with the Independent High Electoral Commission, yesterday, Tuesday, in the presence of a representative of the United Nations Mission in Iraq (UNAMI).
The statement stated that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the steps to prepare for the Kurdistan parliamentary elections, and the presidency and the Kurdistan Regional Government expressed their full readiness to facilitate and assist in a way that makes the process proceed in a transparent and professional manner.
The statement indicated that the Commission discussed during the meeting the technical procedures and time allocation for the steps to hold the elections within the legal period available to the Commission, and the UNAMI representative expressed readiness to cooperate with all steps to make the electoral process a success.
According to the statement, the meeting stressed that the presidency and the regional government had taken serious steps to hold elections in the Kurdistan region in the past, and had performed their legal duties in this regard, and now they are ready to make the same efforts to make the electoral process a success in the Kurdistan region.
Last August, the President of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, issued a regional decree stipulating that elections for the Kurdistan Parliament be held in its sixth session on February 25, 2024, but the Federal Election Commission requested that the date be postponed for technical reasons.
