Today, Thursday (March 14, 2024), Representative Thaer Al-Jubouri revealed the secret of the movements of the past 48 hours regarding the file of the Presidency of the House of Representatives.
Al-Jubouri said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "Important details occurred in the past 48 hours through what emerged from the political tour of some Sunni leaders against the heads of the political and influential blocs in the Iraqi scene. The aim was to amend the bylaws, which allows the House of Representatives to open nominations and add names." For new personalities to compete for the position of presidency of the Council.”
He added, "The current internal regulations do not allow such a step, so there are political understandings in order to make an appropriate amendment that will lead to resolving this paragraph, but it will take some time."
He pointed out that "if the bylaws are amended and the door is opened for the submission of new names for candidacy for the presidency of the House of Representatives, it will proceed and select whomever the House deems capable and competent to assume the position to manage the highest legislative body in the country."
The Taqadum coalition is working to find a way to open the door for nominations again, regardless of the first round of electing the Speaker of Parliament, so that they can present a new candidate instead of Shaalan Al-Karim, to ensure that they do not lose the position of Speaker of Parliament.
