On Friday, weather forecaster Sadiq Attia published maps that reveal the cause of the drying up of the tributaries of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.

Attia said in a post followed by "NAS" (March 3, 2023), that "the drought values are very high during the winter, which ended two days ago over the Turkish Anatolian plateau, due to the weakness of the depressions of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean."

Attia explained, "This casts a shadow over the diminishing amounts of water in the tributaries of the Tigris and Euphrates and the drought, as well as the recurrence of weather conditions in the cities of northern Iraq, especially Nineveh, whose climate is affected by the Mediterranean climate."

Attia attached a map showing the drought index, starting in yellow, then red and black, for the period from (August 2022 to January 2023).
