{Politics: Al Furat News} Wafaa Mohammed Karim, a leader in the Kurdistan Democratic Party, explained that the party won 41 seats according to the preliminary results of the Kurdistan Region elections, out of 95 seats, in addition to 5 quota seats.
Karim explained in his interview with {Euphrates News} that “forming the next government requires 50+1 seats,” noting “the possibility of forming it away from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, if the latter demands more positions than usual, as it will be sufficient to grant them the positions determined by the Democratic Party.”
He added, "The candidates for the presidency of the region and the government have been determined, as Maroor Barzani will be nominated for a second term as prime minister, and Masrour Barzani for the presidency of the region."
The Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections (general vote) were held yesterday, Sunday, with a participation rate of 72%, according to the Election Commission.
Dohuk topped the four governorates with a participation rate of 78%, followed by Erbil with a participation rate of 74%. The percentage in Sulaymaniyah Governorate was 65%, while the percentage in Halabja Governorate was 69%.
The number of voters registered to vote in the four constituencies in the Kurdistan elections is about 2.9 million, according to the Commission.
