    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
The Victory Coalition, led by Haider al-Abadi, said on Monday (October 21, 2024) that there are serious concerns about targeting oil facilities in Iraq.
The leader of the coalition, Aqil Al-Rudaini, explained in an interview with "Baghdad Today" that "the tension in the Middle East has reached a critical stage, and Iraq is not far from the repercussions of what is happening, noting that" there are resistance factions directing their strikes deep into the occupying entity, and the latter is using excessive force in Palestine and Lebanon, and the lists of martyrs and wounded give painful facts about the course of what is happening."
He added, "There are indeed warnings to the Iraqi government that if the bombing of targets deep inside the occupied entity continues, the latter may respond to the sources of the strikes, and our fears are that any targeting of oil export platforms in any province will expose the country's entire economy to danger if it is known that Baghdad depends directly and almost entirely on oil export revenues to secure the treasury's financial needs."
Al-Radini pointed out that, "Targeting oil platforms is costly, and rebuilding them is difficult and takes time. Therefore, we will be facing a difficult situation, in addition to the fact that Iraq does not have air cover. Therefore, our warnings about the continuation of the war in Palestine and Lebanon without a horizon to stop it will certainly mean its expansion to other regions in the Middle East, and Iraq will not be far from this major crisis."
On Saturday (September 21, 2024), military expert Ayyad al-Tufan warned of the danger of Iraqi factions participating in a direct war between Hezbollah and Israel if it breaks out, while sending an urgent message to the Iraqi government.
Al-Tufan said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "It is very natural that if a war occurs between Hezbollah and Israel, Iraq must be on the safe side, and it is the duty of the Iraqi government that Iraq not interfere in a conflict in which Iraq has no interest, as this interference may cost Iraq a lot, especially since Israel's hand can reach all Iraqi facilities at a time when the Iraqi government is unable to confront Israeli missiles or aircraft."
He explained that "the Iraqi government must be firm with the armed factions and must prevent them from doing anything that could drag Iraq into this war if it breaks out. If the Iraqi government allows the factions to make Iraq part of this war, there will be a position by the international community towards Iraq, and this gives the impression that the situation in Iraq is controlled by those factions, and thus many problems will rebound on it, whether on the diplomatic, economic, or even legal level before the UN Security Council."
He added, "If the Iraqi armed factions intervene in this war, all of Iraq will be dragged into this war, and Iraq will pay a heavy price if Israel targets Iraq, and this is very expected. Perhaps Israel will strike the ports of Basra, for example, and here it will cut off the main and primary financial resource for Iraq, and thus the country will face a major problem in the economic and financial file, and for this reason the Iraqi government must prevent these factions from entering the expected war between Hezbollah and Israel."
