The volume of Chinese imports from Iraq during the first nine months of 2024 amounted to nearly 30 billion US dollars.
Economic expert Munar Al-Obaidi said in a post on his personal Facebook page, which was followed by "Al-Eqtisad News", that "Iraq exported goods to China (crude oil represents the largest part of them) worth 29.5 billion US dollars, up 11.7% from the same period in 2023, which amounted to 26.4 billion US dollars in the same period in 2023."
He explained that "the volume of direct trade exchange between Iraq and China during the first nine months of the year amounted to 41.4 billion US dollars, up 12% from the same period in 2023, which was 37 billion US dollars."
Al-Obaidi expected that "the volume of trade exchange between Iraq and China will reach around 55 billion US dollars by the end of 2024. However, if Chinese goods indirectly exported to Iraq are added, the volume of trade exchange between Iraq and China may exceed the barrier of 65 billion US dollars, and thus China will be Iraq's largest trading partner."
